Can You Roll Back a Fallout 4 Version on Steam
- #1
If you updated the Fallout 4 patch today and want to roll back for using Script Extender, here's a video tutorial I found for doing so.

To keep Steam from updating it in the first place I found this;
Open the Windows run dialog (Windows key + R) and type in steam://open/console to open the Steam console.
Then type in:
@AllowSkipGameUpdate 1
Hey presto, Steam will now let you skip updates when you launch a game.

Easier way is just change the steam option on when to update to - only on launch - and never use the regular steam game launcher.
using F4SE launcher bypasses the steam Fo4 game launcher completely and you'll never get an update until you decide you want an update.

According to this guy:
The most significant patch addition to the game actually benefits mods like F4SE, which hopefully will make all this nonsense where we have to either roll back an update, force the game not to update, and / or wait on updated versions of mods that get constantly broken by game updates, hopefully won't happen anymore. I don't know how true this is, but considering whenever new Creation Club stuff came in we had to update to a new version, it probably behooved Bethesda to eventually do something like this so they didn't inevitably have the game version run into some obnoxious numbers.
*EDIT*
Well, he's right. I just went and looked in the main Fallout 4 game location on my system and there is a new file there called Fallout4.ccc which I assume stands for "Creation Club Content". So maybe this will prevent all this drama in the future after all.

@SpudHut The issue I posted this for only affects PC users. We have a separate program we use that adds extra functionality to the game that breaks every time Bethesda releases a patch.
As far as I know it isn't possible to roll back on Xbox to fix any other issues you're having.

Steam won't add the console part so I can't roll back after my teen son got online to play Rainbow 6.... and forgot to shutdown the updates! ugh!

okay, helpful hint.... make sure you go into task manager and shutdown any steam program like the backstrapper and then run with '-console' in the command line. RIght click and run as administrator... if ghosted in steam, make sure family view if off with your pin.
was able to get the file to fix downloaded, but interesting, had to go back 9 months to 1.9.4 ....
unfortunately, F4SE won't run game as some .dll is now missing.... will reinstall and see what happens... otherwise, will just move forward and hope no big issues.

You'll undoubtedly have to use one of the archived versions of F4SE. They have them listed on their website and what version works with what Fallout update.

I did and followed the video instructions. Runtime and DLL issues. Ended up going with the update and spent 1/2 day finding and updating all my mods. My version is 1.10.40 ... I tried to back date the version 1.10.20, but got same issues... so 1.10.40 it is. Got everything back up and running, though for some reason, there is more files needing replaced besides the appropriate F04 exe file.
